Panasonic Plasma Technology is the new addition to The Vatican Museum

Friday January 28Th, 2011 – Today was the celebration of the latest

installation of forty-two new plasma displays which reinforce the existing

Panasonic technology already in place.

Ten displays have been installed at the foyer of the new entrance and will be used to inform and drive the millions of tourists that visit the Vatican

Museum. Among the displays installed are 50 inch and 65 inch models.

Panasonic’s life-sized 103 inch display has been installed and with it’s

wide-viewing angle the screen ensures displayed information is clear and visible.

Panasonic technology inside the Vatican continues to have an important

security role.

Thirty-two professional 42 inch displays have been installed in a video wall configuration in the control room. The displays were chosen for their picture quality and colour reproduction which allows the security operators to study high-quality video in real time.

For this event the delegation of Panasonic, guided from its European

president Laurent Abadie, have been received into the Governatorate

Palace by His Excellency Mons. Carlo Viganò General Secretary of the

Governatorate of the Vatican City State.

The ceremony continued inside the Vatican Museum, with a visit of the new installations. In this occasion Panasonic and the Vatican Museum Directors have confirmed that their cooperation will continue in the future.

It is also under consideration to install another 103 inch, this time with 3D technology into the congress room. On occasion of particular events, the screen will enable guests to appreciate the 3D images which bring a higher level of realism to the experience.

Panasonic and the Vatican City have been working together for the last ten years:

• In 1999 Panasonic installed the video surveillance system, still controlling the square, the basilica the Vatican museum and all the State areas today.

• The cooperation advanced with the first instalment of professional plasma displays, which are used exclusively to transmit public information and videos to visitors.

• During 2007 Panasonic installed four giant screens in St Peter’s Square to broadcast a programme of religious celebrations to a million people..

“We are proud of this cooperation with The Vatican”, said Mr. LaurentAbadie, President and CEO of Panasonic Europe. “To have our professional plasma technology installed inside the Vatican Museum to support the viewing of precious pieces on display and to drive visitors inside the course of museums.”

Mr. Claudio Lamperti Managing Director of Panasonic Italia, underlines the theme of security: “Our main hope”, said “is to continue our relationship during the coming years, to support the job of the surveillance and security teams at The Vatican with our best technology”.
